Hello friends, even though the snow is still on the ground, we're busy preparing for the growing season here at Eureka Organic Farm. Continue reading below for a what's happening on the farm and how you can get involved. But first, quick note:
The DOGE's reach has been felt here in our little corner of Vermont. We received word last week that funding for one of our NRCS grants was frozen, despite having a signed contract for building pollinator and beetle habitat into our farm and fields, as well as growing cover crops. These practices are designed to build soil health, and also to increase yields with these beneficial insects. These practices mean less spraying and tilling, which in turns strengthens our farm but also the local watershed, the environment, and the local economy through sales of our increased yields. To me these seem like the opposite of the waste that DOGE aims to cut. Thankfully, someone in Washington must have agreed, because the funds have since been unfrozen, and we have the green light to continue with these projects. But this is a stark reminder that your support and that of our local community is more important than ever. We are so thankful to be a part of your lives. And now, onto the good stuff:
